Sports and Recreation

Fishing Charters at Avatiu Harbor offers deep-sea fishing from its two cabin cruisers. Also at Avatiu is the larger 10-meter Seafari of Seafari Charters, Rarotonga's best known deep sea sport fishing boat since 1983. Captain Moko's Fishing Charters offers bottom fishing and you get to take home part of your catch. Akura Charters, also based at Avatiu Harbor, offers gamefishing and bottom fishing to four anglers at a time.

These boats depart weekdays around 0800 (weather permitting) and the fishing takes place right off Rarotonga, so you get very good views of the island and don't waste time commuting.

The Tangaroa III is an open boat based at Avatiu Harbor—an adventurous way to go fishing. Most of these operators will allow you to keep a few smaller fish for personal use, though larger fish belong to the boat. Ask about this before booking, if it matters. From August to October you might see whales from your boat!
